Established in 2020, the Aquilae Quartet first formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and brings together English-Cuban, Cornish, Polish, and Scottish-Filipino backgrounds. Known for their distinctive sound and strong connection, the Aquilae Quartet are highly recognised in their passion for 20th Century music and pioneering lesser-known compositions, whilst also sharing a love for the classics. The quartet performed the UK premiere of Bacewicz’s String Quartet No. 6 in Silk Street’s Milton Court “Chamber at 8” series in March of 2023, and went on to debut the work in Coll, Penzance, and Bodmin. The Aquilae Quartet has received mentorship from renowned musicians Marc Danel, Levon Chilingirian, Krysia Osostowicz, Ursula Smith, and Matthew Jones. They have also received coaching from the Endellion Quartet, and participated in public masterclasses with Alfred Brendel, Kyoko Hashimoto, Harumi Rhodes, and the Kuss Quartet in a masterclass and performance showcase at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in February 2025.

 

Recently returning from Schiermonnikoog in the Netherlands, the Aquilae Quartet were invited to participate in the Schiermonnikoog Festival Masterclasses in March 2026, where they received close mentorship from Marc Danel (Danel Quartet), performing in public masterclasses, evening concerts, and receiving daily coaching and guidance. In the summer of 2023, they took part in the Tunnell Trust’s chamber music residency “Music Coll”, where they worked closely with Charles Tunnell, Ralph de Souza, and Scott Dickinson on the beautiful Isle of Coll. The previous summer of 2022, the Aquilae Quartet took part in the Virtuoso&BelCanto Festival in Lucca, Italy, where they were subsequently selected to perform a recital at the Florence Arts Academy in July 2022.

 

Performing regularly in venues across the UK, the Aquilae Quartet recently played recitals for the Highgate Literary & Scientific Institution in January 2026, the St James’ Piccadilly Lunchtime Concert Series in November 2025, and performed in Truro for the Truro 3 Arts 2024/2025 Season Opening Recital. The Aquilae Quartet shares a special connection to the Cornish music scene and are regular performers at the “Dante Festival”, “Music on the Moor Festival”, “NOVA Classical Music Festival”, and the “Tim Boulton and Friends” Concert Series in Penzance.

 

The Aquilae Quartet are greatly looking forward to an upcoming performance at St Mary’s Perivale for their established Lunchtime Concert Series in April 2026, and participating in the “Musical Chairs Chamber Music Festival” in Montreal, Canada this May 2026, where they were nominated by the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as the representative quartet.
